Terms of Use

Last updated 6 October 2026 · End-user licence agreement for the Delva app, and terms for getdelva.com

In plain words. Delva is free to download and use. It is licensed to you, not sold. The history is written carefully but it can be wrong, so tell us when it is. Nothing here takes away your rights as a consumer under UK law.

1. Who you are agreeing with

These terms are an agreement between you and Episteme Labs Ltd ("we", "us"). - Company number 17387745, registered in England and Wales. - Registered office: 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom. - Email: [email protected].

By using Delva you agree to these terms and to Apple's Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

You must be at least 13. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must agree to these terms on your behalf.

2. Your licence

We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Delva on Apple devices you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in Apple's Media Services Terms.

You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer, decompile, rent, lease, sublicense or redistribute the app, except where the law allows it despite this clause.

3. Your account

  • You can use Delva without signing in.
  • If you sign in, keep access to your Apple ID, Google account or email address secure. You are responsible for activity on your account.
  • You can delete your account at any time in the app, as described in the Privacy Policy.

4. The content

How cards are made. Cards, lessons and game questions start from Wikipedia and Wikidata. They are rewritten for the phone with the help of AI tools, then checked against those sources. We aim for accuracy, but history is contested and sources contain errors. Delva is for general interest and learning, not for academic, legal, medical, financial or safety decisions. If you find a mistake, email us and we will fix it.

Licences. - Text adapted from Wikipedia is used under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 licence (CC BY-SA 4.0). Our adapted text is released under the same licence, so you may reuse it under its terms. - Images are used under their own licences (public domain or Creative Commons). Each image's author and licence are listed on our Credits page. - Delva is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Wikimedia Foundation.

Grave subjects. Some topics concern war, atrocity, disease and death. We write about them with the weight they deserve. If a subject distresses you, swipe on.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to: - break the law or these terms while using Delva; - use bots, scrapers or other automated tools against the app or our servers. The CC BY-SA licence lets you reuse adapted text, but it does not give you a right to automated access; - interfere with, overload or try to gain unauthorised access to the app, our servers or other people's data; - abuse invite links or try to manipulate XP, streaks or rankings.

6. Intellectual property

The Delva name, logo, app, design, software, and any original content not covered by section 4 belong to Episteme Labs Ltd or our licensors.

Feedback you send us may be used without any obligation to you.

7. Changes to the app and these terms

We update Delva often and may add, change or remove features and content. We may also update these terms. The date at the top shows the current version, and we will tell you in the app about significant changes.

8. Ending the agreement

You can stop at any time by deleting your account and the app.

We may suspend or end your access if you seriously or repeatedly breach these terms. Where reasonable, we will give you notice and a chance to put things right first.

Sections 4, 6, 9, 10, 11 and 12 survive termination.

9. What we promise, and what we don't

If you are a consumer in the UK, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 gives you rights in digital content, and nothing here affects them. Consumers elsewhere keep their own mandatory protections.

Otherwise, Delva is provided "as is". We do not promise it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that every historical statement is complete or correct.

10. Our liability

We do not limit liability where it would be unlawful to do so. That includes death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, and breaches of your statutory consumer rights.

Otherwise: - we are not liable for losses that were not foreseeable, or for business losses, since Delva is for personal use; - our total liability to you is limited to £100.

11. Terms required by Apple

  1. Acknowledgement. This agreement is between you and Episteme Labs Ltd only, not Apple. We, not Apple, are solely responsible for the app and its content.
  2. Scope of licence. Your licence is limited to a non-transferable licence to use the app on Apple-branded products you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in Apple's Media Services Terms, except that other accounts associated with you through Family Sharing or volume purchasing may also use it.
  3. Maintenance and support. We are solely responsible for maintenance and support. Apple has no obligation to provide either.
  4. Warranty. We are solely responsible for any product warranties not effectively disclaimed. If the app fails to conform to a warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any). Apple has no other warranty obligation.
  5. Product claims. We, not Apple, are responsible for any claims relating to the app, including product liability, failure to meet legal or regulatory requirements, and consumer-protection or privacy claims.
  6. Intellectual property claims. If a third party claims the app infringes their intellectual property, we, not Apple, are responsible for investigating, defending and settling that claim.
  7. Legal compliance. You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a US Government embargo or designated as "terrorist supporting", and that you are not on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
  8. Developer contact. Episteme Labs Ltd, 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom; [email protected].
  9. Third-party terms. You must comply with any applicable third-party terms when using the app.
  10. Third-party beneficiary. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of this agreement and may enforce it against you.

12. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. Consumers living elsewhere in the UK, in the EU or in another country keep the mandatory protections of their local law, and may bring proceedings in their local courts.

Please contact us first; a founder will reply, usually within a day.

If any part of these terms is unenforceable, the rest still applies.
